Student Life at U.S. Institutes

Your success is largely attributed to the connection you make with faculty, staff and other students. And, it helps that we at AEMS educated you about the kind of life one can live in the US rather than you going all the way to a foreign land and discovering a whole new world. For example, each of you at AEMS will be educated about the campus facilities of your college and university as each institution has its unique campus facilities. Let’s have a quick at some:

Housing is available on campus and off campus.

• Easy access to Campus, Acculturation and Campus Involvement are the major advantages of staying on campus while disadvantages are less privacy and cost.
• You might face transportation challenges in off campus accommodation. However, at the same time it is more private and competitive.

Many campuses have an active campus life that includes a lot of extracurricular activities that includes social events, concerts and cultural events, community opportunities, athletics and physical recreation and many more. They also have Student Governments, Clubs, Fraternities and Sororities.

Employment Regulations for International Students:

You can work in On-campus jobs for a maximum of 20 hours per week when the academic session is on. You must search for the available jobs after you have finished all the formalities and found yourself a proper accommodation. Please remember that your MAIN and only objective is to study and equip yourself with a good degree that qualifies you to find jobs anywhere in the world; part-time employment can only subsidize your finances, not replace it. You may work full-time (40 hours per week) during the scheduled breaks between semesters.

Curricular Practical Training / Optional Practical Training

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) in a running business or institution provides you hands-on experience, which is an integral part of your curriculum and is usually required for Credit. These are offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is an opportunity for you to gain work experience to complement your academic program. You are eligible for one year of OPT on obtaining a US degree requiring a minimum of 12 months’ study; if the degree falls under STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Designated Degree Program List, OPT may be extended by another 17 months (Maximum 29 months).
